The inaugural display... a brief potted
history by the artist, Sheila Kettle
The very first display was created in 1997. My parents' 50th wedding anniversary was
looming,
but the
idea for the perfect gift was not! Inspiration finally took hold at the last
minute - what about
a miniature
reminder of their years together?
As a collector and crafter of miniatures from an early age I was immediately enthused with
the
concept of this exciting and very personal project. What to do first? Make a list....
What
have
they done? Where have they been? What interests do they have?
Where
will I get the items I need at such short notice? I know, I'll raid my dolls'
house! Out came a hand-stitched rug, silver ice bucket accompanied by a
champagne bottle and glasses, records, cards, newspapers, etc. It was
agonising to see these treasured items go but I knew they were going to a good
home.
